Military Model Scene

Part of the Airfix 1/72 USAAF Bomber resupply set is the Autocar U-7144 plus the large F1 Fuel Tank semi-trailer.  Having a plastic kit of this US tractor unit is very welcome.  As well as the tanker trailer, they towed open top GS trailers as part of the Red Ball Express convoys in NW Europe.

The kit builds up very neatly.  The one thing to think about is the brush guard grill, which is moulded as a solid piece.  I drilled out the holes on mine which is one option, and this does enable the headlights to be seen behind it.  An alternative is to go for the very good Etched Update set for the complete resupply set which Eduard have recently released.  I have now to build another one soon, when I will use the etch set which does feature a complete replacement for the guard, among other details.
