Military Model Scene

What an interesting approach for this new book aimed at aircraft modellers in particular from Ammo, and imagining the modern combat aircraft which could get caught up in a potential Third World War.  It mixes a series of modelling projects with an imaginary series of news stories in the progress of a third World War, the 'World in Crisis'.  Having been through the recent 100 year memorials to WW1 and with WW2 still in living memory I still wonder how the world feels that that there is potential for a third.  To be fair, the book makes a very good job of it, while providing a modelling guide and some interesting camouflage schemes for no less than 12 fine modern aircraft builds from 10 very talented modellers.

The aircraft featured are a Shenyang J-15 Flying Shark with an attractive light/dark blue disruptive pattern and nicely done metal jet exhausts.  A Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit, the Stealth Bomber, comes next and a nicely done grey blue camouflage.  This is followed by one that is not just the airframe build, but a diorama setting as well.  It features a Japanese operated Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey, picking people up from the roof of  a building (reminded me of those scenes in Saigon in 1975) and a very nice end result.  A Soviet aircraft next, the Shukoi SU-35 Flanker E with an interesting multi-colour geometric camouflage followed by a Chengdu J-20 Firedragon in an imaginary camouflage but with a delightful dragon design across the upper surfaces.  The scenario moves to Europe next and for this we get a Eurofighter Typhoon of the RAF.  Then it moves back to the Far East, with a Shukoi SU-30 Flanker C in Indian Air Force markings and again some very neat metal finishes on the engines before we see a drone, the General Atomics MQ-1 Predator.

For the final stages of this imaginary conflict we get 4 more builds.  A Shukoi SU-57 Foxcat, a Lockheed F-35C Lightning II, Mikoyan MiG-29 Fulcrum and rounded off with a McDonnell Douglas 5-15 K Slam Eagle.

The quality of the builds really are first class and the excellent photography which illustrates each one is also to a high standard.  Considering this is a book published by Ammo of Mig Jiminez then I don't think it should come as a surprise that the paints, weathering effects etc are from their own product range and it does show how they can be used to their best effect.  TO mix some fine modern aircraft builds and mix it neatly with a story that ties them all together I found this an effective way to tell a story and use it to accompany the builds which provide plenty of inspiration for modellers.
