Sdkfz 251/1 Ausf a in 1/72...

...a kit from First to Fight models

Another kit from Polish manufacturer First to Fight in their range of 1/72 injection moulded kits  and one I am pleased to see.  A basic wargamers model, with some simplifications therefore, but the first injection moulded kit I can recall of the early Ausf A version of the Sdkfz 251.  The distinctive feature of this one is the use of vision ports along the side of the superstructure, a feature that was removed from later variants.  Not many parts and it is a quick one to build.  The seat backs are not right and have been simplified, as these should be upright with stowage behind.  If the troops sat back against the angled side I suspect it would be a very painful ride.  You could correct it but for the sake of building this one 'out of the box', I haven't.  I also allowed myself a bit of artistic licence in imagining the seats have leather covering, built at a time when there wasn't so much pressure on resources as later in the war.  I have yet to apply the transfers, which are included, and then it will get a filter and some light weathering.

Overall I like this, a simple build so aimed at the wargaming market and the inclusion of the magazine, albeit in Polish language, at a good value for money price.  That is gives us a plastic kit of the Ausf A with the side vision blocks that is a welcome bonus.

The First to Fight kits are imported to the UK by Tiger Hobbies Ltd, where I bought my example.
