Military Model Scene

The US built Quonset Hut was a WW2 prefabricated building based on the WW1 British desgn of the Nissen Hut.  Made of corrugated galvanised steel, and with improved insulation over the British version, around 170,000 were built during WW2, and were used in theatres around the world.  They served multiple purposes, such as Barracks, surgeries, hospital wards, offices, store rooms and more.  They got their name from the first place they were built, by a Naval Construction unit based at Quonset Point in Rhode Island.
 
The kit has two identical sprues, enabling you to build a pair of huts.  One with windows set into the sides, and another without.  Very simple buildings to construct, as was the real thing.  These are ideal for the fans of small scale dioramas, as they would be good for a base for the US Air Force, Army, Navy or Marines, depending on what figures, vehicles or aircraft you might want to feature alongside.  Italeri provide a pre-cut sheet of clear plastic sheet for the window glazing and the simple assembly instructions.  You will only get one with windows along both sides, so the second will have to be a windowless store shed.

They build up quickly and neatly.  I then used a rattle can to spray a US Olive Drab colour before adding a filter to enhance the colour and then a brush using Tamiya weathering pastels pale green to highlight the corrugated surfaces.
