Now we get to No 8 in the new series of 'Single' titles from MMP Books. The Me410 entered service in 1943, and over 1100 were built by the end of the war in 1945. It was used as a 'heavy' fighter and 'Schnellbomber'. It was powered by 2x Daimler Benz DB 603A V-12 engines. One variant, which is featured in the book, was armed with a 50mm cannon fitted in the nose, and with 21 rounds carried in the ordnance bay underneath the fuselage. It brings back memories to me when I first came across a model by 'Frog', which grabbed my attention thanks to that heavy cannon mounting.
The book follows the pattern of others in this series, starting out with 7 pages of scale drawings, one of which folds out for the 1/48 scale plans, as well as the 1/72 plans as well. As well as the plans for the Me 410 A-1 plus additional elements covering the 50mm cannon armed /U4 variant. The following 14 pages hold a mix of archive images, lots of detailed drawings taken from the original aircraft manuals and some photos of the preserved example at Cosford, and these include some colour images inside the cockpit. That leaves the final 3 pages which have their excellent colour artwork, illustrating Me 410 A-1/U4, W,Nr,520292, 3U+CC of Stab II/ZG26, at Konigsberg in the summer of 1944. Another excellent addition to this series, and one that brought back happy childhood modelling memories.
