The fourth book in this new Single series from MMP Books, and this time a Bubbletop P-51D-10-NA Mustang. The format for this 24 page softcover book follows the set pattern, opening with 5 pages of excellent scale drawings, showing the aircraft with both side views, upper and lower plan views and a series of fuselage cross sections in both 1/72 and 1/48 scales.
The main section of the book follows, with 14 pages of a mix of photos of both archive images and more detail in modern museum examples along with plenty of diagrams showing specific detail, taken from the original technical manual. As well as the airframe itself, there is plenty of detail of the engine and its' mountings. It is completed with with a page of useful colour photos of the instrument panels of a preserved example. On pages 20 is another set of 1/72 drawings, though this time with shaded sections indicating how the different all-metal finishes were applied to the different elements of the airframe, and the first time I can remember seeing such an indication of the different shades we see in the colouring of an all-metal finish to the Mustang airframe. The final four pages provide some lovely artwork. One pages is a detailed illustration of the main instrument panel while the remainder illustrate the P-51D -10-NA s/n 44-14292, flown by Lt.Col. Claiborne H. Kinnard Jr. in September 1944, flying with the 4th FG of the 8th Air Force in the UK.
Another neat addition to this new series, and a lovely reference for modellers in particular.
