Robin Buckland's
British BL 8in Howitzer Mk VI in 1/72...
...a kit from Roden
Keeping with the WW1 theme, Roden have made a neat job of this British 8inch howitzer and limber. Moulded in a green plastic , and on three sprues, it makes up rather well. The sprue feeds are a little bit thick in some places and there are some mould seams that need cleaning up - particularly on the two large wheels for the gun carriage. These need to be done as the treads for these traction engine style wheels have the tread done in a soft black vinyl, rather like the tracks in a standard AFV kit. Do check their fit as I found them a bit short so they need a little careful 'stretching' to get them to fit correctly. I did it by using superglue to fix them to the wheels, gluing a quarter of the wheel, then pulling slightly to do the next quarter of the rim and so on, and this worked well with them meeting up nicely. The other thing is that I found there was some flash on some elements, which needed careful clean-up. The fit of parts then is good. The instructions are a bit vague on where to fit the elevating quadrant, but this goes on the trunnion for the barrel, which you can see and check on the drawings given for the painting guide. Add the limber and this makes for a nice pairing.
There are two options suggested for painting, one in plain green and the other as illustrated on the box art, green with a brown disruptive pattern that also has a black outline.

I got mine from Tiger Hobbies Ltd.
