Leopard 2A6, in 2 parts...
...Militarfahrzeug Specials Nos 5070 and 5071, new from Tankograd
Title: Leopard 2A6 - Development, Design, Technology
Author: Ralph Zwilling
Publisher: Tankograd

This new Militarfahrzeug Special from Tankograd, number 5070 is the first of two parts to cover the story of the Leopard 2A6 in great detail. This one starts it off with the development story which started after the end of WW2 with the planned MBT70 design along with the USA, though differences in their requirements led to the (then) West German military going their own way, with what became the Leopard 2. This in turn went through a number of in-service variants leading to the 2A6. As well as the development story this goes on to describe each element of the tank in detail, with explanatory text supported by excellent detail in good quality colour photos.
Starting with a basic Description, it carries on to look at the Hull; Chassis (running gear and tracks) which is also accompanied by some 1/35 scale drawings; Central Hydraulic System; NBC Protection system; Fire Warning and Suppression; Electrical system; Pre-heating / Heating system; Power Pack; Turret; Sights; EMES Main Sight; FERO Auxiliary Sight; PERI Panoramic Sight; Fire Control Computer; Main Armament; Machine Guns; Smoke Grenade Launchers and other detail elements. Hopefully that give a good idea of just how much detail this goes into. As usual with Tankograd publications, all text, including photo captions, is provided in full in both English and German.

Title: Leopard 2A6 - In Action and Variants
Author: Ralph Zwilling
Publisher: Tankograd

The second part of these Militarfahrzeug Specials from Tankograd, is number 5071, of 56 pages. This one moves the story on, and looks at the Leopard 2A6 and variants such as the 2A6A1, 2A6M, 2A6MA1 and 2A6M+.
Even once in service a tank is subject to upgrades over the years. This one illustrates and explains the differences between each of these variants. There are two more complete sets of 1/35 scale drawings along with more detail photographs both inside and out. So clearly a great reference for modellers with interior colours as well as the external three-colour NATO camouflage pattern. It also details the individual crew positions, Commander, Gunner, Loader and Driver. Add information on the unit organisation along with 3 pages of Technical Data tables, you have a very complete picture of the Leopard 2A6 thanks to these two new Specials.
