Russian BTR-70 APC Late version in 1/72...
...building the other Trumpeter kit, this time the Late version
Trumpeter have been adding a number of new small scale kits to their range in recent months. I have already looked at the Early variant, and now we have the Late version. Nicely detailed and simple and straightforward to build, they share the same parts on general, and a second, smaller sprue holds the specific parts for the Late variant. The 8-wheel design has nicely done suspension arms which go together well and make the assemblies neat and simple, while the tyres are moulded in a black vinyl and just slip onto the hubs. Best to paint the hull and hubs before adding the tyres and fitting the wheels to the suspension units. This version has a different light arrangement and two large 'bumper' plates on the rear end, and additional firing ports on the centre hull panels.
As with their Early variant, bearing in mind they share a common upper hull, if there is one change I would have wished for, then it is that the hatches were not all moulded shut. Now painted and transfers applied, just final weathering to do....

I bought mine from E- Models who sent the order through very quickly.
