Robin Buckland's
Russian JS-4 Heavy Tank in 1/72...
...building the Trumpeter kit
Yet another Trumpeter kit in 1/72, the JS-4. Also known as Object 701 it was a developed version of the JS-2, with new engine, extended hull and an extra roadwheel, the four extra fuel tanks were also mounted on that rear deck extension, offering a touch more protection I assume. Only about 250 were built between 1947 & 49 and these were sent to the Far East, from where they were relatively quickly retired, as their performance proved to be somewhat disappointing.

The kit has the simplified one-piece track and inner roadwheels, just the outer roadwheels to fit into place. Both the turret and hull are quite simple, and the main parts fit very neatly. As with others in this series, perhaps my one disappointment is that the hatches are all moulded shut so some work to do it you want to add crew figures. For colours, these came in a period when plain Russian green is the natural option. Mine is now built and a basic colour sprayed on.

I bought mine via Tiger Hobbies here in the UK.
